PUKA URQU

This new place is located in the province of Napo to thirty-five minutes from Tena's city. The name Puku Urku means Red Mountain. There are some reasons why this site is so special, and you need to visit it.

Firstly, the area is around nature for that reason the sight is amazing. The flora and fauna are exotic but typical of Amazon Region. From the beginning of the road, the wild environment can be appreciated by tourist people because the path to reach our destination is made of mud with very greenish vegetation of bushes and ferns around it. Additionally, the sounds of animals are in the air as music intoned for our calm, you can hear birds, crickets, toads, frogs, and snake-like sounds.

Secondly, when you arrive at the waterfall, your lungs breathing pure and fresh air. However, the best thing is the clear and clean water through it you can observe the stones and fish that are in the river. The river has an approximate depth of 4 or five meters, but the water in this part is so quiet. Do not worry about that, you can swim in a type of natural pool. Furthermore, the rock from which the water of the waterfall pours is smooth and of a vivid color that shades with great depth the vitality of being in the jungle, making your experience much more intense.

Thirdly, the cost is one dollar per person, the hours of operation are Mondays through Sunday from 9:00 A.M. to 17:00 P.M. The food is cheaper and you have different options to select the best one. For instance, Maito de Tilapia, chicken stock, brochettes of Chontacuro, chicken or meat, roasted chicken feet, and roasted chicken.

In Summary, Puka Urqu is one of Ecuador's wonders, but many people do not know about it. Even though many times we think the best places are outside in other countries the reality is that there are pretty things to discover in our own country. This is a good example of this.

My recommendation for you is if you are interested in visiting it in summer, it is sunscreen and in winter is rubber boots and jacket, and in both kinds of weather is mosquito repellent.

  1. Hi Sol! thank you for sharing this information, I love each place that you describe in your post, and at some point I hope to venture to know each of these places, I will tell you that I have always preferred the river more than the sea, so this place seems fantastic and also the gastronomy is very peculiar so the first thing you would eat when visiting that place would be the Chontacuro brochettes.
